Machine tools equipped with energy consumption sensor

A milling machine (Adria Machine PBM – 4EVS) and a parallel lathe (Adria Machine FEL – 1660 HG) equipped with sensors for energy consumption monitoring are available in our lab. These machines are used to study the energy consumption in machining and to optimize the process parameters and cutting strategies aiming to reduce the environmental impact of machining operations.

Homemade experimental setup for the study of powder spreading in additive layer manufacturing

This device, conceived and designed by us, simulates the spreading of the powders during powder bed based additive manufacturing technologies (e.g. selective laser melting and electron beam melting). The device allows to vary the layer height, the temperature of the building plate, the velocity of the spreader, the angle of the spreader. Several features of the built powder bed can be measured and acquired. This setup is meant to optimize the spreading parameters aiming to:

  • reduce the required laser power;
  • enhance the repeatability of the process;
  • study how to re-use the powder;
  • study the spreading of new powders.

Sharebot Q equipped with a Chauvin Arnoux C.A. 8431 Sensor for energy consumption


Sharebot Q is a professional 3D printer with an A3 format printing area (its dimension are: 400 x 300 x 300 mm) and it uses FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) technology to realize professional prototypes with high quality and precision.

The printer allows to manage all the aspects of the printing process from the user’s remote device (computer, smartphone or tablet), optimizing the professional workflow; Q allows also to manage different operations at the same time from the same platform (even on different 3D printers) with just a click. Moreover the web interfacegives the possibilty to monitor the printing process thanks to the integrated webcam.

Sharebot Q has an integrated spool-case system compatible with 750g spools and the special 2.2kg PLA-S filament, used by professionals. The printer has also a big useful case under the magnetic printing plate with another spool case integrated: the box can be used to store materials and tools useful for the printing process.

The printing process with Sharebot Q is easier thanks to a filament double dragging system with engines both on the extruder and next to the spool (bowden system) improving the extrusion. The professional user experience is also optimized by the filament sensor which control the operation, avoiding any failure in case of problem.

Qualistar+ C.A 8331 is designed for test and maintenance departments working in industrial or administrative buildings, it  can be used to obtain a snapshot of the main features characterizing the quality of the electrical network.

Easy to handle and particularly compact, this instrument also offers a large number of calculated values and several processing functions. The C.A 8331is equipped with 3 voltage measurement channels and 3 current measurement channels.
When the current sensors are connected to the C.A 8331, it recognizes them automatically. It also offers the possibility of mixing different types of current sensors and configuration of the ratios allows direct reading of the measurements.

The Qualistar+ is specially designed for work in the field:

The multiple functions of the Qualistar+ C.A 8331 make it particularly versatile. It is suitable for applications up to 1,000 V in CAT III and 600 V in CAT IV.
The measurements obtained with the Qualistar models can be processed using two software tools: PAT delivered as standard and Dataview®, available as an option.
